Happy Friday, Love Scent fans!
We’ve recently had a few customers ask a question that might have crossed many of your minds: if you’re a woman who wants to attract women, or a man who wants to attract other men, how do you approach pheromones? It’s a good question, and its answer is tied up in the topic of pheromones and gender.
Remember: the relationship between pheromones and gender is not exactly black and white. Women can use “male” pheromones with great success, and men can use “female” pheromones with great success. The “male/female” categorization is often due to the effects of the pheromones, and how we associate those effects with different genders, rather than which sex typically produces more of a certain pheromone.
For example: the “male” pheromone, AndrosteNONE, is a metabolit of testosterone. It’s considered by many to be a “male” pheromone, not only because men usually produce more testosterone than women, but because its resulting effects–confidence, alpha vibes, and, in overdosing cases, aggression–are more often associated with men than with women. But women have had great success in using AndrosteNONE, both for its confidence-building properties and for its ability to boost sexual attractiveness.
So women who want to experiment with AndrosteNONE–or any other “male” pheromone, for that matter–should feel free to experiment all they want. Likewise, men should feel comfortable experimenting with “women’s” pheromones and their beneficial effects.
Now, back to the question of which pheromones you should use if you’re a woman trying to attract women, or a man trying to attract men. We’ve been asked a few times if women should use women’s pheromones or men’s pheromones when trying to attract women, and if gay men should use men’s or women’s pheromones. The answer depends on two factors: (1) which pheromones you have in mind, and (2) which type of man or woman you’re trying to attract.
Let’s look at the first factor. While we just told you that pheromones are not as gender-specific as many people think, there actually are two pheromones that have been shown to have different effects depending on someone’s sexual orientation. A 2006 study asked straight men, straight women, gay men, and gay women to smell both AndrostaDIENONE, which is produced in much higher amounts by men, and Estratetraenol, which is produced primarily by women. When gay men and straight women smelled AndrostaDIENONE, the anterior hypothalamus of their brain lit up; the brains of straight men and gay women, however, reacted as they would to any other odor. But when straight men and gay women smelled Estratetraenol, their brains lit up; when straight women smelled Estratetraenol, they did not have the same response. (Another study showed that heterosexual men are more likely to think a gender-ambiguous image is female when they are exposed to Estratetraenol.)
So, if you’re interested in AndrostaDIENONE and Estratetraenol, specifically, then you’ll want to take sexual orientation into account.
Now let’s look at the second factor: the type of man or woman you’re trying to attract. Remember, “male” pheromones and “female” pheromones are often categorized the way they are because of the effects they have. If you’re interested in someone who is attracted to confident, dominant “alpha” types, go for pheromones containing AndrosteNONE and AndrosteRONE–regardless of your own gender, and regardless of the gender of the person you’re trying to attract. On the other hand, if you’re more into people who are attracted to laidback, approachable types, something containing AndrosteNOL or Beta-AndrosteNOL is a better bet.
Let’s take a look at some specific formulas to help bring all this into focus, shall we?
Do you want to attract someone who is attracted to alpha types? Consider the following pheromones:
1. Alpha-7 (starting at $14.95)
Alpha-7 is, as its name suggests, a pheromone that helps transform you into a confident alpha. Men and women alike have had success with this formula, and it is one of the most popular products in Love Scent’s catalog.
One of the secrets of Alpha-7’s success is its balanced formula: it contains both AndrosteNONE and AndrosteRONE. The AndrosteNONE is a strong, sexual, dominant pheromone that is often overwhelming and intimidating when used on its own; AndrosteRONE, on the other hand, increases confidence and perceived authority without the aggressive side effects of AndrosteNONE. With AndrosteRONE there to balance out the AndrosteNONE, Alpha-7 carries a lower risk of intimidating the people around you.
Balanced though it is, we do recommend using Alpha-7 sparingly. One or two drops is enough for most people. And, if you’re using the unscented version, be sure to pair it with a cover scent or a scented social pheromone! This formula naturally smells like body odor, and that scent needs covering up.
APC for Women is an AndrosteNONE–based formula. It contains only AndrosteNONE and an essential-oil based cover fragrance, making it an ideal choice for women who want to experiment with AndrosteNONE but don’t always have perfume around.
Because APC for Women only contains the strong, dominant pheromone AndrosteNONE, it should be used sparingly. Too much can make you too overbearing and aggressive rather than confident and charismatic, which will chase potential partners away rather than draw them to you. Start with one drop rubbed on your pulse points and add more as needed.
You can try a 1-oz bottle of APC for Women for $49.95. If you’re interested in attracting those who love confident alphas, give this formula a try!
Are you more interested in someone who is attracted to laidback, friendly, approachable types? Then have a look at these options:
1. Super Primal Pheromone Oils ($9.95)
The popular and dependable Super Primal Pheromone Oils are 1/4 oz bottles of scented AndrosteNOL. The fragrance options range from masculine (CK Version and Cool Scent) to feminine (Paris Hilton) to unisex (Roman).
AndrosteNOL is often called the “icebreaker pheromone” because of the friendly aura it gives the wearer. It can reduce stress, elevate mood, and increase trust. It’s a very versatile pheromone, and can be used alone or in combination with other pheromones. (If you want to take the edge off Alpha-7, for example, combining it with a few drops of Super Primal Pheromone Oil is a great way to do that!)
A 1/4 oz bottle of Super Primal Pheromone Oil is yours for $9.95. Order now!
2. Scent of Eros (starting at $9.95)
A well-balanced and popular formula, Scent of Eros combines the friendly and sociable effects of AndrosteNOL with the confident aura of AndrosteRONE. The resulting formula is charismatic and unaggressive, and less intensely sexual than AndrosteNONE–based products.
Scent of Eros can be worn in most situations, either alone or with other pheromones. Like the Super Primal Pheromone Oils, it makes a good partner for more aggressive formulas, like Alpha-7 or APC for Women, because the AndrosteNOL balances out the intensity of more aggressive sexual formulas.
You can try Scent of Eros with gel packets (starting at $9.95 for 7 packets), or in liquid formulas ($49.95 for a 10-ml bottle–and we promise we’ll have more of the women’s liquid formula in stock soon!). Get yours today!
There you go! If you’re interested in people of the same gender and have been wondering how to approach pheromones, or which pheromones might be right for you, we hope you have a better idea now. Now get out there and start experimenting! The right pheromone for you is waiting!
